Minutes of the March 17,
2003 Board meeting
After much debate, the Board took formal action to support Measure HH
on the June 3 ballot for the incorporation of Hacienda Heights. The
final vote was nine in favor, one against, and two abstentions.
Mike Hughes reported that the League of Women Voters has agreed to moderate
a cityhood forum on Monday, April 28 at the Wilson High School gymnasium.
The forum will start at 7:00 P.M., with both sides having the opportunity
to present their respective views.
Zoning chairman Mike Williams noted that the Regional Planning Commission
has required the low income senior housing development on Gale Avenue
across from the Robinson-May warehouse to file for a new Conditional
Use Permit rather than amending the existing CUP.
Board member Mary Varela reported that she had contacted the Hacienda-La
Puente Unified School District regarding the possible purchase of school
property adjacent to Orange Grove Middle School for a possible walking
park. Dr. Vargas was receptive to the proposal.
Many residents of Hacienda Heights have expressed concern about the
impact the proposed regional library (to be located at the northwest
corner of Schabarum Park) will have on traffic along Colima Road and
Azusa Avenue. Board member Jim Snyder will contact the County Department
of Public Works to invite a representative to address this issue at
a future business meeting.
