Law Enforcement
Updates: CHP reported that DUI collisions have gone up, largely intersection
crashes. CHP will have roving DUI patrols looking for impaired drivers.
Running red lights and making California stops is an increasing problem.
Over 100 citations were issued in the past month. Stimson and Halliburton
are getting special CHP attention, where another 100 citations were
issued for speeding. CHP officers will wait tables at Claim Jumper for
the benefit of the Special Olympics. There are 22 officers working out
of the Walnut station that services Hacienda Heights which allows for
quicker response time. CHP also has a program for schools around graduation
time on the dangers of drinking and driving.
Sheriff has arrested a suspect involved in a shooting on Charlemont.
The department is staging a Baker to Vegas run for charity - 200 deputies
are entered.
Public Input: Supervisor Knabe's Chief Deputy, Curt Pederson, was introduced
by Dickie Simmons. The Supervisor is hosting a Smarter Seniors Forum
at Pathfinder Park on April 30. Services Directory pamphlets were distributed
by the Public Works Department.
A Country Wood resident reported a problem with trucks on the 60 freeway
driving over raised asphalt patches which cause a very loud banging
noise like an explosion - very disconcerting especially at night. He
has written many letters requesting help in reducing the noise.
Community Interest Reports: Mike Hughes stated that the plans for the
7th Avenue trailhead gate are moving along well. The advanced placement
art class at Los Altos High School is doing the design work for the
entrance gates.
Each HHIA Director will receive an invitation to the Puente Hills Landfill
Native Habitat Authority 10th Anniversary Celebration on May 12.
Director Nancy Abbott reported that the Dump the Dump Committee has
purchased storage space at Power Storage, 16408 East Gale Avenue, Industry.
HHIA is welcome to make use of the space.
New Business: President Mike Williams nominated members of the Puente
Hills Landfill Citizens Advisory Committee (CAC): Donna Steinmetz, John
Shubin, Jeff Yann, Robert Isaacson and Mike Hughes. All were confirmed
by the Board.
Mike Williams moved to confirm the members of the Hillside Open Space
Educational Committee: Jeff Yann, with Mike Hughes as an alternate.
Approved unanimously.
Board adopted Mike Williams' motion to participate in theI Love America
Parade on July 5. Charles Norris will chair.
