Minutes of the May 19, 2003 Board meeting

On April 9, developers of the proposed housing project located at 15554 Gale Avenue (across from the May-Robinson warehouse) submitted their application for a CUP. This is a proposed 75-unit low-income housing project for seniors. The developers propose to construct 2-3 story buildings and provide 55 off-street parking spaces and a recreation center. An initial environmental report (Negative Declaration) has been prepared and will be reviewed by Zoning Chairman, Mike Williams. How the project proceeds will depend on the outcome of the cityhood ballot issue.

Preparations are underway for the Ninth Annual Jim Davis Beautification Day which will be held on June 28. Religious and civic and Boy Scout organizations have been invited to participate in this annual event that precedes the July 4 Parade. Volunteers will gather at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints located on Colima Road at Dawnhaven at 8 a.m. Last year, 208 volunteers participated in the event which is coordinated by HHIA and is named in honor of past HHIA board member, Jim Davis.

The County recently completed a study of various traffic corridors in Supervisorial District 4, including Colima Road and Azusa Avenue (south of the Pomona Freeway). The impact of the proposed regional library on these already heavily congested highways will be discussed at the June 16 meeting.

The Board expressed concern about the impact of the AERA development on Puente Hills residents. This is a proposed 3,600 unit residential development on 2,935 acres of land located in the hills south of Rowland Heights between the 57 Freeway and Fullerton Road. The HHIA Board approved sending a response to the Notice of Preparation of a Draft Environmental Impact Report expressing concerns about the impact of the project on traffic, air quality, water supplies, and existing County library, sheriff and fire services. The Board is also concerned about the impact of the project on the Puente-Chino Hills Wildlife Corridor.
