Minutes of the July 21, 2003 Board meeting

The County has received several complaints about the appearance of the palm trees along Hacienda Boulevard. They have announced that they will trim the trees this fall. Thereafter, they will be trimmed every two years.

The HHIA Board approved a motion requesting the County to initiate proceedings to update and bring current the County General Plan to Hacienda Heights. It was noted that the current General Plan was approved in 1978 and does not reflect the current values and cultures of our community.

HHIA is moving ahead with its proposal for the County to acquire the vacant school property located west of Orange Grove School and turn it into a limited use public park. Mary Varela will be meeting with Dr. Vargas, Superintendant of the Hacienda - La Puente Unified School District regarding this matter.

The County reported that the Hacienda - Unified School District has approached the County regarding the construction of a cultlural arts center on school property. The County is taking the proposal under sonsideration.

The Upper San Gabriel Valley Municipal Water District has invited HHIA to be a participant in the development of the San Gabriel River Education Center which will be located where the Whittier Narrows Nature Center is currently located in South El Monte. The Board approved a motion for HHIA to submit an application to be a participant.
