Public input
was provided by Jeff Yann who discussed the great progress being made
on the Emerald Necklace park development. He distributed an excellent
brochure describing the project.
CHP Public Information Officer, Joe Zizo, introduced his replacement,
Officer Raquel Stage. She reported that crashes and DUI's are at an
all time low, the COPS team has been revived and can be reached at their
hotline 562-868-0503, extension 255. She attributed the decrease in
crashes and DUI's largely to greater visibility of law enforcement in
our area.
L.A. County Sheriff's Deputy Brian Sanford shared that the shooting
on the 60 freeway was road rage, that a kidnapping for ransom occurred
and the suspects were captured, deputies are in training for WMD issues
including protective equipment and clothing. He reported that the Sheriff
's staffing is at an all time low.
Bud Welch, Ombudsman for the Puente Hills landfill, shared that construction
in canyon 4, Liquid Management Project, is in progress. The Materials
Recovery Facility (MRF) went on line in July 2005, and is receiving
200-300 tons per day. Two gates are still under construction and moving
slowly.
Supervisor Knabe's deputy, Dickie Simmons, introduced representatives
from the County including Jason Alameddine and Peter Wang from Building
and Safety, Deputy County Counsel Tracy Swann, Associate County Counsel
Paul Kim, Rose Hamilton and Patricia Hachiya from Code Enforcement,
and Susan Brown from Parks and Recreation.
The representatives from County Counsel spoke at length regarding the
County's addressing the Medical Marijuana facility issue which included
restraining orders and future plans and injunctions by the courts on
behalf of the Board if Supervisors. Ms. Brown spoke about an infusion
of funds into the department's budget. A survey of the community is
in progress to better understand needs and expectations.
