Minutes of the September
15, 2003 Board meeting
The California
Highway Patrol reported that they continue to work on illegal street
racing. They noted that there has been a decline of that type of activity
in Hacienda Heights.
Dickie Simmons of Supervisor Knabe's office reported that the project
to trim the palm trees along Hacienda Boulevard will be underway within
a week. Thereafter, the trees will be trimmed on a bi-annual basis.
Dickie also noted that the County is looking into planting oleander
trees along Stimson Avenue north of Halliburton and providing some type
of landscaping along Gale Avenue.
Mike Hughes announced the nominating committee for the 2004 Board elections.
The committee will consist of Jim Snyder (chair), Jeff Yann, C.J. Jenkins,
John Shubin and Christina Hughes. Leaving the Board will be Mike Hughes,
Jeff Yann and Jim Snyder. Board members up for re-election are Charles
Norris, Mary Tang and Mary Varela.
The County is looking into restricting overnight parking on the south
side of Gale Avenue between 1 a.m. and 10 a.m. Parking is already restricted
on the north side of Gale to curtail overnight parking of bigrig trucks.
Mike Hughes felt that the real problem is the parking restrictions imposed
by the City of Industry, which has forced truckers to park in the residential
areas of Hacienda Heights. The Board approved a motion to request the
City of Industry to address the problem.
Mary Varela is still working with the Hacienda-La Puente School District
for HHIA's proposal for a park on the 4.5 acre property adjacent to
Orange Grove School for a walking park. The main issue is whether to
purchase the property or lease it.
