Minutes of the December
20, 2004 Board meeting
Eleven of the 12 current Board Members were in attendance. Vice-President
Charles Norris was excused due to a family commitment.
MINUTES OF THE NOVEMBER 15 MEETING. Approved as presented.
TREASURER'S REPORT. Mary Tang stated that the HHIA bank balance as of
November 30 amounted to $8,740.24.
LAW ENFORCEMENT UPDATES. No representatives were able to attend.
PROGRAMS. This was a business meeting and no program was scheduled.
PRESIDENT'S REPORT. Mike Williams announced the date of the HHIA Annual
Membership meeting for January 13, 7:00 PM, at the Palm Elementary School.
A special committee will count the ballots at this meeting and results
will be announced. Board Members who chair committees will give their
reports of yearlong activities.
The next Board Meeting will be held on Monday, January 24, new Board
Members will be seated, and election of Board Officers will be voted
upon. In February, the Board will hold a dinner meeting to discuss goals
for the 2005 year. Date and place to be determined.
The President recognized the presence of Deputy Jeff Salcedo from Congresswoman
Grace Napolitano's office, and expressed appreciation for his attendance.
PUBLIC INPUT. Regarding code enforcement, it was suggested that too
restrictive laws can be changed, although it would require time and
effort to do so.
SUPERVISOR KNABE'S OFFICE. Field Deputy Dickie Simmons expressed appreciation
for the good attendance at the Public Safety Appreciation Luncheon on
December 1, stated that Public Access Television Station, channel 3,
will air a new program on law enforcement, and called attention to the
of crossing guard assignments review which is reviewed every three years
- the current focus is on Stimson and La Monde, Stimson and Colima,
Kwis and Los Robles. There will be a hearing on a the-way stop for Kwis
and Robles.
COMMITTEE REPORTS:
Mary Varela - Parks and Recreation, and the Board election. There are
861 ballots for 484 households that were mailed on December 13.
Luis Rodriguez - Environmental Impact report is on file.
Jean Robson - Membership has reached its highest count for the year,
and she is updating the membership list.
Scott Martin - Public Health and Safety, and Newsletter. Special thanks
to Mary Tang for printing the ballots, to Mary Varela for mailing and
to Mike Williams for contributing articles.
Alfonso Baez - Zoning. Brought of the matter of growing number of cell
phone antennae in our area.
Tom Chang - Streets and Highways. We need to address the amount of excessive
speeding that is contributing to more crashes, especially on Stimson
and Colima.
Scott Martin - Programs. Will request a presentation by the Fire Department
in February.
Mary Tang - Community Relations. Attended a Rotary meeting, met with
the speaker on the landfill project and methane gases, and invited him
to address HHIA.
Lucy Pedregon - Public Relations. Attended the Pubic Safety luncheon,
Supervisor Knabe's swearing in ceremony, visited Assemblyman Ed Chavez's
Christmas social.
Rudy Almeida. Attended the Public Safety luncheon, the swearing in ceremony,
and the Chavez social.
OLD BUSINESS. Puente Hills Landfill Citizens Advisory Committee needs
volunteers to serve on the watchdog committee. They need to be knowledgeable
about the Conditional Use Permit provisions.
NEW BUSINESS. Principal Amy Baumann requested HHIA support for the crossing
guard at Stimson and La Monde. Board voted to prepare a letter of support.
