26, 2007 Board meeting
The Board approved
two motions, one to pay the bill for the 4th of July banners, and another
to pay for the continued use of the HHIA website and the webmaster.
L. A. County Sheriff's Deputy Brian Sanford advised that his department
and the Public Health Department have targeted illegal vendors, especially
those selling fruits and vegetables on the streets. He also reported
that the Chinese New Year's event was successful with no traffic accidents.
Law enforcement personnel in May will be conducting a "Every 15
Minutes" drunk driving program in front of a high school - a re-enactment
of a drunk driver accident - so students can see the tragic effects.
COPS team members said that they were moving on transients and gang
members who were hanging out at the abandoned Burger King; one arrest
was made.
Program: Robert Jamieson, President and CEO of New Horizons Caregivers
Group, a 501 (c) 3 organization stated that they provide goods and services
to the care giving community. They have free food giveaways and recently
sponsored an event at Shady Bend Elementary School. He said that "food
insecure" homes have serious effects on children's ability to learn
as well as grow. Supervisor Don Knabe provided the organization with
a grant for the purchase of the food given away at Shady Bend.
Program: Lisbeth Sinclair, Community Studies, shared their progress
regarding the Community Plan and advised that meetings in the community
have been and are being conducted seeking input from the residents.

Jim Starkey, representing Senator Margett's office, listed the committees
and boards the Senator sits on. He reviewed several bills both signed
into law (910) and vetoed (262) by the Governor.
James Yang, County Public Works, provided an update of the County's
graffiti abatement program to include a current look at a patrol abatement
method (not a complaint driven program where the team only addresses
reported locations). This patrol will monitor principal streets and
intersections.
Committee reports form the Board included: Mary Tang, Cyndi Watanabe,
Donna Steinmetz, Charles Norris, Jim Snyder, Jean Robson, Mae Chu and
Scott Martin.
President Mike Hughes reviewed the president's correspondence and recognized
Janet Davidio for her continued support to Hacienda Heights and the
HHIA Board. He also introduced Jodi Hennesey as a possible new Board
Member.
