Minutes of the March 20,
2006 Board meeting
The Board approved
the continuation of the webmaster contract with Curt Norris for the
ensuing year in the amount of $519.60.
The Board approved HHIA participation in the Celebration of Youth Event
on May 20, 2006, at Steinmetz Park.
Law enforcement: Lt. Garcia reported on graffiti issues; a Bassett gang
member was arrested; an indecent exposure incident resulted in an arrest
of a suspect (with help of a partial license plate tip). Lt. Welsen
shared that robberies are up and assaults are down over last year. Deputy
Kramer described several different graffiti tagger types: (1) those
who put up their "art", (2) those who cross out others work,
(3) gang member signs who cross out others work - these are dangerous.

Jim Starkey, representing Senator Bob Margett's office, offered to send
a letter to CalTrans requesting them to speak to the HHIA Board on the
issue of a bond re infrastructure. He also showed a map indicating the
three senators who represent the Hacienda Heights area: Margett - 30%,
Escutia - 65.6% and Romero - 4.4%.
Board of Supervisors field deputy Dickey Simmons reminded everyone of
the Taste of the Heights event , A Night Under the Stars, at Pathfinder
Park, Wednesday, May 24, 5:30 PM to 9:30 PM. On June 1, there will be
a dedication of the Harbor Blvd underpass (created for animal safety).
A Town Hall meeting is planned for Wednesday, September 13, to be held
at the Hsi Lai Temple. He also reported on the Peaker Plant designed
to provide a maximum of 500 megawatts of reserve power during brown
outs in the summer months. The Athens MRF (materials recovery facility)
is planning for future truck traffic and Supervisor Knabe's office is
interested in meeting with residents along the route.
Committee reports from Lucy Pedregon - public relations, and Mike Hughes
- environmental improvements were filed with the Secretary.
President's correspondence included (1) Waste Discharge Requirements
PHLF notice of their meeting on April 6, at the Los Angeles Department
of Water and Power, the East San Gabriel Valley newsletter for March
2006, and Friends of the Whittier Hills Newsletter, Spring 2006.
