Minutes of the April 17, 2006 Board meeting

Law Enforcement:
CHP officer Ben Sotelo discussed several multiple fatal accidents from many DUI collisions, and failure to observe red lights at intersections. Residents expressed concern over large tractor trailers parking for days on Pepperbrook near Wedgebrook.
 
LA County Sheriff's deputy Brian Sanford described the drug related double shooting homicide. Three persons are in custody. Graffiti continues to be a problem. Residents expressed concern over the inadequacy of Sheriff's deputies. Sanford indicated that there are two patrol vehicles at any one time. When necessary, others can be called to assist.
 
Business presentation:
Representatives from Joy Management and Ojiya-Sushi & Japanese Cuisine expressed their need for a Conditional Use Permit to sell beer and wine at their upcoming restaurant. They were advised to present their plans for review to the County Regional Planning Commission for review. Board Member Sanne Lee will review the plans and submit to the HHIA Board for review. If approved, HHIA will send a letter to the Commission supporting their request for a CUP.
 
Sound Walls and HOV Lanes:
Representatives form Cal Trans updated the 60 freeway HOV and sound wall project. This 3 year project will include four bridge/overpasses (7th Street, Turnbull Canyon, Stimson Ave and Stoner Creek); 6 miles of sound walls, and 11 miles of carpool lanes. Closures will be staggered. There will be no taking of private property on the entire 11 mile project. Bridge widening will take three months. Two pedestrian overpasses will be permanently removed (Kwis and Riderwood).
 
State Senator's report:
James Starkey, from Senator Margette's office, reminded everyone of the State Agency Expo 2006, to be held on Saturday, April 22 at Westerfield Mall. The infrastructure bill failed due to costs needed for soccer programs and bus engines. SB 1421 deals with investigation of stages II and III childcare fraud.
 
Barbara Fish inquired about the Free Trade Zone going in the City of Industry and was concerned about the increase in truck traffic.
 
Steve Feld provided information about the Kiwanis Club Rib Fest at the industry Convention Center on May 7.
 
Several Board committee reports were filed with the secretary: Mike Hughes, Jean Robson, and Luis Rodriguez.
