2007 Board meeting
The Board approved
sending a letter to Supervisor Knabe regarding the due dates for the
Sanitation District suggesting that they will not meet the 2009 benchmark
for the required off-site rail system being operational. This would
be a violation of Condition 58 of the Conditional Use Permit for the
landfill.
Jim Starkey, representing Senator Margett's office, spoke about SB 974
proposing $30 fees for ocean-to-road containers (20 foot equivalent)
coming from the ports to help mitigate the effects of air pollution
and road congestion.
L.A. County Sheriff's Deputy Sanford shared that vehicle burglaries
are down from 27 to 19, arrests were made of juveniles who admitted
burglarizing cars. Two additional deputies are working on gang enforcement
detail in the evenings. Sgt Cabrera, with the COPS team, advised that
he was now permanent at the Industry Station, phone 323-819-6191.
CHP motor officers Valencia and Sotello stated that about 10 officers
worked an overtime detail and issued 110 citations; and additional detail
involving 8 CHP officers issued another 125 citations - all for a variety
of violations, especially failure to observe stop signs and excesive
speeding. Two more CHP officers are being added to the COPS team. Bob
Saxton, interim principal at Kwis Elementary, asked for help with speeders
and shared frustration over conflicts he had with the County over the
lack of a crossing guard.
Bud Welch, Landfill Ombudsman, reporting on the PH landfill, advised
that between March 1 and May 31, 4,400 plants were planted on the hillside
and irrigation was set up. He discussed tree planting at the MRF. A
seven acre liner will be put in place at Mesquite.
Cal Trans represetnatives provided an update on the HOV lane and sound
wall project on the 60 freeway. Zareh Shabazian presented the project
scope, and discussed phases 1-7 of the project with the HOV lane in
the center. This will take approximately 3 years to complete. An audience
member expressed frustration over the sound wall not being included
in their area of the freeway after they had received asurances that
it would be included.
Tim Riley, land use consultant, shared plans for the City Lights Cocktail
Lounge to expand in size. Owner Stephanie Regner added information.
The Board was asked for its approval and to communicate same to the
Regional Planning Commission. There was no objection.
Dickie Simmons, Supervisor Knabe's field deputy, shared communication
about the Community Connection newsletter distributed to all residents.
There will be a Haz Mat Roundup on July 7 at La Habra Heights Park,
and at Rowland High School on July 14. The annual luncheon recognizing
public safety heroes will be held on November 18 at the Pacific Palms
Conference Center and Resort.
A work group was created to develop a new HHIA informational brochure.
Volunteers are Jean Robson, Scott Martin and Charles Norris.
Residents were encouraged to support the Jim Davis Beautifcation Day
on June 30 starting at 8:00 AM to clean up the streets prior to the
Fourth of July parade.
