Minutes of the June 20,
2005 Board meeting
Law Enforcement:
CHP shared information about the Click-It-or-Ticket seat belt program
that thus far has issued 2004 citations for seat belt violations. 22
people died in traffic crashes over the Memorial Day weekend in California,
largely due to abuse of alcohol and drugs. In Hacienda Heights, both
collisions and fatalities are lower. Law enforcement between 7th and
Hacienda on Gale netted 104 citations last month. CHP plans to saturate
certain streets occasionally to try to get the message across to obey
the law. Failure to stop at stop signs, especially before right turns,
is a major problem, followed by speeding.
CHP has a new Commander for the Santa Fe Springs area, Captain Guillermo
"Willie" Godinez who wants to reinstate the Community Officer
Program for Hacienda Heights. Two motor officers with 25 years of experience
will be assigned.
LA County Sheriff's Department Team Leader Deputy Sanford presented
first quarter crime statistics, and discussed gang issues and home burglaries.
One of the best deterrents to home burglaries is to make it look like
you're at home: lights on, mail and newspapers picked up, lawns mowed,
alert neighbors when your going to be away, solid locks on doors and
windows.
Program scheduled for Don Duncan, California Medical Care Giver Association
(CMCA) was cancelled due to Mr. Duncan's inability to attend the meeting.
Community Recognition: Blanca Hinojosa, owner of the Casa Blanca restaurant,
was presented with the first community recognition plaque recognizing
her efforts to support the Hacienda Heights community for many years.
Board of Supervisors report: Dickie Simmons, Field Deputy for Supervisor
Don Knabe, 4th District, talked about the Medical Marijuana dispensary
attempting to conduct business in Hacienda Heights in the Von's shopping
area. A moratorium was placed on the facility until the Board of Supervisors
can gain a better understanding of the situation and the ramifications
surrounding their conducting business. The issued raised both support
and condemnation of the facility among the audience.
Deputy Simmons treated the audience and the HHIA Board with free motor
oil collection containers and goodies advertising an upcoming waste
oil collection day at Jiffy Lube on Colima.
Graffiti Abatement program: Valerie Hill described her company's program
and support of the Multi-Agency Graffiti Intervention Committee (MAGIC),
which removed 16 million square feet of graffiti in L.A. County last
year.
