Minutes of the July 17,
2006 Board meeting
The Board approved
a motion by Mike Williams thanking them for putting on a very successful
Fourth of July parade.
Law Enforcement - Town Sheriff Brian Sanborn said that members of the
COPS team are currently in training. There have been more ticketing
of cars on Farmstead, Neighborhood Watch participation is increasing,
August 1, 2006 will be the National Night Out to get to know your neighbors,
sponsored by Target. Crime in June was in a downward pattern in assaults
and vehicle burglaries, but up on home burglaries. There were 76 arrests
in June. About 60 citations were issued. Vendor sweeps were conducted
looking for business license and health code violations. No CHP representatives
were able to attend.
Fire Department - Captain Willie Sanchez shared information regarding
the brush clearance program. The first inspections were conducted in
February and March, and a second inspection in June. The owner has the
option to remove the brush or a team hired by the County will do it
and bill the owner's taxes. Residents are encouraged to call 211 to
report vacant lots and properties with weeds. Flyers were distributed
to educate residents on how to prepare for and conduct an evacuation
from their homes. More information on evacuation preparedness is available

Legislation - Jim Starkey, representing Senator Margett's office stated
the State budget was adopted on time this year. The Senator voted NO
on the budget citing "serious concerns" and that the State
has doubled its spending in a span of 25 years. Thirteen initiatives
will be on the November ballot, and he read each title. The unemployment
rate is at 5%, down from 5.8% at the first of the year. California is
in debt by $7 billion.
Dickie Simmons, from Supervisor Knabe's office indicated that the Library
Bond initiative failed and there will no 40,000 square foot addition
in Schabarum Park. The next Community Planning Meeting will be held
on July 26, at 6:30 PM at Steinmetz Park. Supervisor wants small committees
formed to start researching some ideas for the utilization of the tipping
fund. The Supervisor has also asked for a law or ordinance where tagger's
vehicles or driver's of vehicles aiding and abetting the taggers will
have their vehicles confiscated, and sold, with the money going towards
supporting law enforcement programs working on tagging. Dickie reported
that discussions are underway to replace and improve street signs in
Hacienda Heights, improving the walls along Hacienda Blvd., and setting
up an electronic message board. He also announced that there will be
a town hall meeting on September 13, at the Hsi Lai Temple, at 6:00
PM.
Ken Harper discussed how all the day camps in the parks and senior
programs are going, the mobile recreation program at Countrywood Park,
and a Monte Carlo Night is being planned later in the fall.
MIke Williams commended Charles Norris and Mike Hughes for the very
successful Jim Davis Beautification Day cleanup.
