Minutes of the September 18, 2006 Board meeting

CHP Officer Ben Sotello reminded everyone to send comments or concerns to their Santa Fe Springs Office. Concerns from the audience were the dramatic increase of motorcycles in the vicinity of Vallecito and Camino del Sur Vallecito and Los Altos, running stop signs and barreling down the street which the CHP will look into. CHP is also beginning Start Smart classes for young drivers.
 
Sheriff's Department COPS team is working undercover at Schbarum Park in relation to the molestation in the restroom. They are working on some leads. Three taggers were apprehended. School police are responsible for gang education classes. The Sheriff's Dept Industry Station will hold an open house on Saturday, November 2 from 9:00 AM to 2:00 pm.
 
President Mike WIlliams commented on well the Town Meeting was attended with more than 70 residents and 30 County representatives. He suggested that thanks be extended to Supervisor Knabe to encourage additional meetings be held.
Jim Starkey, from Senator Margett's office, reported on legislation that had been signed by the Governor. He reviewed the content of each bill.

Mae Chu, representing the Hsi Lai Temple, indicated that they were working on the development of a community center on property owned by the Temple. An announcement will be made at the October HHIA meeting. For more information, please call 626-961-9691, ext 1285.

Dickie Simmons commented on the Town Hall Meeting and presented two certificates to HHIA members who had completed CERT training with the Fire Dept: Bob McCluskey and Charles Norris, was interested in increasing the Neighborhood Watch Program and advised people to contact Sheriff's Deputy Brian Sanborn. Nuisance Abatement Teams are starting up to include both law enforcement and code enforcement. He made a plea for election poll workers. Street signs are being replaced in Hacienda Heights, mostly on major streets, identifying the community. On November 2, the annual Public Safety Appreciation Luncheon will be held at Pacific Palms. An electronic message board will be put up at Hacienda and Halliburton for a moment to see how it will look.

Committee reports were given and information distributed about emergency preparedness, public relations and membership.

Mike Williams indicated that he had attended a meeting in which it was predicted that over 600,000 population will be in San Gabriel Valley in the next several years. This will offer challenges the demographics, health and transportation of the area.

A Nominating Committee for the Board offices will be established and volunteers are invited. Two Board members and three HHIA members will participate.
