CHP Officer
Sotello advised that motorcycle racing is continuing to be on the increase
in the hills and is under surveillance.
Town Sheriff Brian Sanford indicated that graffiti surveillance continues
but no arrests were made. A probation search resulted in finding stolen
property and equipment for making fraudulent credit cards. While overall
crime is down 6%, burglaries are on the increase. The Industry Station
will hold an open house on November 4. Sgt. Acton, with the COPS team,
will assist other deputies with late night party problems by videotaping
the event and the license plates of vehicles, noting that the sound
level will help to document the nuisance.
HHIA member Henry Pedregon provided information regarding the ongoing
trial and sentencing of the four juveniles who assaulted and seriously
injured a Rowland School District Police Officer.
A presentation was provided by Jimmy Lin, with Katz, Okitsu & Associates,
and architect Yung Kao, consultants, were hired by the Hsi Lai Temple
to plan and design a proposed 21 acre compound community center for
construction opposite the existing temple across Hacienda Blvd. Details
included the planned use of the compound. Attendees at the meeting made
both positive and negative comments about the proposal. The Hsi Lai
Temple will hold an open forum in the near future.
Jim Starkey, representing Senator Margett's office, spoke about both
approved and vetoed legislation.
William Chung, with Design One, spoke about a current construction project
immediately behind the Mr. Swiss restaurant in the Vons parking lot.
The plan is to have a karaoke bar with no alcohol being served.
Leon Garcia, member of the Board of Directors of the Upper San Gabriel
Valley Water District, shared their mission, information about the quality
of water provided, and some statistics regarding usage and shortfalls.
Dickie Simmons, Supervisor Knabe's field deputy, reminded everyone to
save the Hacienda Heights Connection as an information resource, and
urged support of the Public Safety Appreciation Luncheon in November.
Committee reports were provided by Charles Norris, Luis Rodriguez, Sanne
Lee, Troy Goodspeed, Lucy Pedregon, Mike Hughes, Jean Robson and Scott
Martin.
