17, 2005 Board meeting
The HHIA Board
approved an expenditure of $100 to send four Board Members to the November
16 Homeland Heroes Annual Public Safety Appreciation luncheon on November
16.
Treasurer's Report by Mary Tang noted a balance of $7,339.30.
Law Enforcement. Deputy Sheriff Brian Sanford noted that tagging is
on the increase. There are still problems with illegally parked vehicles.
He will try to get someone to the Board to talk about identity theft.
The Sheriff will be conducting patrols of the 7th Street trailhead.
Mike Hughes suggested that patrols could be useful near the end of the
Los Robles entry point.
President's Report by Mike Williams advised that the HHIA 50th anniversary
celebration is being planned for Saturday, November 5 at the HH Women's
Club.
Public Input. A question was raised about street patching which Dickie
Simmons will follow up. Rudy Almeida commented on a letter dealing with
the Medical Marijuana Dispensary, noted the graffiti problem - especially
on the freeway overpass.
Supervisor Knabe's Deputy Dickie Simmons reviewed upcoming events: the
Public Safety Appreciation luncheon at Pacific Palms, the Youth Science
Center Gala, the Taste of the Heights next year in May, the growing
interest in the Community Emergency Response Training (CERT), noted
that Steve Feld is the new president of the Sierra Club, encouraged
people to make use of the 7th street trailhead and to watch for vandalism.
Safety speed indicators will be installed near Grazied school. Dickie
introduced James Yang, as ourt new representative for Roads and Maintenance
(replacing Fabrizio Pachano), and introduced Ken Parker who handed out
a Community Needs Assessment Survey. Ken talked about improving parks
to provide walkways for exercise.
Vanesse Estella, Manager, Special Events for the American Cancer Society,
spoke about plans for a 2006 Heights Relay for LIfe. This fund raiser
will be jointly coordinated for Hacienda Heights and Rowland Heights,
venue to be announced. It is a 24 hour continuous event, 9:00 AM to
9:00 AM of constant team relays and celebrations.
David Wykowski, HH Public Library Branch, announced that the League
of Women Voters will hold a meeting on October 26, at 7:00 PM, to discuss
the November propositions. He added that wireless web access will be
coming to the library soon.
