Minutes of the December
17, 2007 Board meeting
Board approved
a motion to combine the Annual Meeting with the regular January Business
Meeting on January 25, 2008.
CHP - Members of the COPS Team were introduced. Thanked the audience
for the toys contributed to the Christmas toy drive. Enforcement is
continuing on Punta del Este, reminded to be careful on Gale due to
continued construction/traffice being diverted. Six officers are graduating
from the Academy. There has been a 13% reduction in collisions over
the preceeding year. Investigation continues regarding tagging on the
freeway.
L.A. County Sheriff - Deputy Brian Sanford shared that an off-duty Deputy
Sheriff witnessed a tagging in progress and reported it; helicopter
was sent and an arrest made. While searching the suspect's home, more
incriminating evidence was found. Tagging incidents are down. Residential
burglaries have decreased in November to 16. An audience member asked
why crime stats are not reported in our local newspaper, or on the HHIA
website. Stu Sandusky will be the COPS Team Sergeant.
An audience member representing a local waste hauler reported that Christmas
trees will be picked up at curbside until January 17, 2008.
Program - The Upper San Gabriel Valley Municipal Water District representative
Peter Rodriguez shared information about "Water Supply in San Gabriel
Valley." A power point presentation is on file. He provided an
overview of construction, resources, planned projects, and pending bonds
from the State.
Jim Starkey pf State Senator Bob Margett's office talked a little more
about water, specifically "Primary Responsible Parties." He
suggestwed that the Water Quality Agency should update the HHIA Board.
He discussed special sessions on the healthcare debate and universal
healthcare. He shared a few new laws in effect in January 2008: AB 282,
AB 392, SB 67 and SB 220.
Dickie Simmons of Supervisor Knabe's office reported that the electronic
message board is up and running on Hacienda Blvd. He provided some updates
on projects and events at the park, one in particular, the Christmas
event where nearly 500 kids received presents from Santa Claus. He described
more improvements at the Senior Center. He shared that updates are pending
on an overview of activities since the 2005 tipping fees discussions.
A Board Member asked for a progress report on the 7th Avenue planned
park. James Yang, County Public Works, said that advertising for the
project will start in the spring. The new HH Librarian, Wen Wen Zhang,
was introduced.
Committee reports were deferred due to the late hour.
President Mike Hughes shared multiple items (reports on file), including
an Executive Summary titled "Puente Hills Intermodal Facility Environmental
Impact Report, Vol. 1, draft EIR 2007." Copies were also provided
to the HH library.
Jean Robson provided information about the Annual Meeting at 6:00 PM
on Friday, January 25 at the Steinmetz Senior Center.
